An Augusta man has been arrested in connection with a rash of car thefts across the city.

Augusta Police have been investigating several stolen motor vehicle reports over the past few months, both in the city center and in outlying areas. All the vehicles were recovered in wooded areas or gravel pits shortly after they were reported stolen.

Deputy Chief Jared Mills says that earlier this week, police obtained search warrants for evidence related to the vehicle thefts. Those searches, coupled with information from concerned citizens, led to charges against 25-year-old Carl Jackson of Augusta. Jackson is being held at the Kennebec County Jail, with no bail allowed.

Jackson was arrested on April 20th for a probation violation on April 20th. He's now charged with 6 counts of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and 5 counts of Felony Theft.

Mills said the Augusta Police Department wants to thank everyone that came forward to assist in the investigation.
