Later today the Statue of Liberty will receive a decorative Christmas gift from Maine.

A wreath laying ceremony is planned as the mission of remembering, honoring and teaching continues.

Despite encountering some snow on the journey, the Wreaths Across America convoy has reached New York state.

Captain Rick Gammon with the Bangor Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is a logistics specialist and he's with the convoy this year for the first time.  He says so far the trip has gone according to plan.

He also says the journey so far has been filled with emotional moments.

"As soon as we stop the people come crowding around us," explains Gammon. "Many of them have tears in their eyes and they're thanking us and telling us how wonderful they think the program is. Then you meet someone who comes up and says my son was killed in action."

At 2 O'Clock today they will attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.
