An attempt to diffuse a domestic situation in Bangor resulted in a police officer firing their weapon at a man with a knife.

Where Did This Happen?

Detective Lieutenant Brent Beaulieu says police were called to a home at 438 Finson Road just after 3:00 Sunday morning, for a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived at the home, they encountered an individual who had a knife. At some point during the interaction, Officer Bobbylee Gillespie fired her service weapon.

Was the Suspect Hurt?

The suspect was transported to a local hospital. Beaulieu says the person's injuries were non-life-threatening and were not related to the officer's use of force.

Now, the Office of the Maine Attorney General is investigating, regular procedure in any police-involved shooting. Officer Gillespie has been placed on administrative leave, which is departmental policy.

Why Where Police Called to the Home?

Police have not released the individual's name or any further details about the incident that brought them to the Finson Road home. So far, there's no word of whether any charges will be filed in this case.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
