You Can Fish For Free In Maine On These Days In 2022

In February, a special weekend allows anyone to fish Maine waters without a license.

With 2021 coming to an end, we're looking forward to 2022. Free Fishing Weekends are already set for the upcoming year. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has set February 19 and 20 as Free Family Fishing Days. On these designated days anyone can fish in Maine waters without a license.

The event gives Mainers an opportunity to try the sport without having to purchase a fishing license. If your fishing license has been suspended or revoked, no fishing for you.

All other laws and regulations must be followed. Those regulations and bag limits can vary depending on the body of water you choose to fish. It's recommended that you read through the 2022 Maine Open Water and Ice Fishing Law Book. The updated law books will be released soon.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is now issuing 2022 hunting and fishing licenses. Licenses can be purchased online or at any of the more than 800 licensing agents throughout the state.
