The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of eastern Maine, with a "quick hitting" snowstorm expected to dump significant snow in the area on Wednesday.

The snow is expected to start in Bangor and along the coast at around 11 a.m. and will come to an end on Wednesday night, according to the latest forecast.

Bangor is expected to see about 9 inches of heavy snow, with higher amounts north and west. The snow is expected to change to rain along the coast on Wednesday evening, resulting in lower accumulations.

The winter storm warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday.
