Yes, there's hope for American workers that find themselves employed for some of retail giants nationwide. Walmart has announced that it plans to give raises and promotions to many of its hourly workers and managers. Walmart could very well be a very attractive and competitive place to work in the years ahead.

Of course this comes on the heels of criticisms directed at Walmart's executives as  'welfare kings.' There's no question that higher wages will help many struggling families in the lower and middle class range that want to get off the welfare roles succeed in doing so. And just think what this might do for our economy and consumer confidence. I'm encouraged.
