A routine traffic stop resulted in drug charges after police seized a variety of substances. A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana, cocaine, and more.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that State Trooper Randy Hall stopped the vehicle Friday on Route 142 in Carthage for speeding. When Hall approached the vehicle, he smelled marijuana and so conducted a search. Seized as a result of the search were an undisclosed amount of marijuana, cocaine, and many assorted prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and $2,500 of suspected drug money. Police then searched the home of 69-year-old John Ellis,Sr. and found more cocaine, prescription pills, and $3,900 of suspected drug money.

Ellis was booked on a charge of trafficking in schedule drugs, a Class B felony. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
