I'm not saying that I'm a perfect driver, nor am I saying I never get distracted occasionally, but cell phones and texting have become huge factors in causing crashes. It's obvious the problem has gotten severe enough as many states now have distracted driving laws. And get this, recent studies have shown that another distraction in the car is reportedly on par with cell phone usage--kids!

As a parent, there have been many times when my children caused me to take my eyes off the road to tend to their needs. You may not realize it, but in the instant it takes to look at your kid in the backseat, you can travel quite a distance. It may be the distance you need to brake suddenly and safely to avoid a vehicle or pedestrian in front of you.
