State police say the man involved in a standoff in the Southern Aroostook County town of Amity Tuesday has surrendered and has been taken to the to Aroostook County Jail.

[UPDATE] Lt. John Cote says say 65-year-old Gary Knapp has surrendered after a series of negotiations.

Police were called to a home on the Monument Road around 8:30 a.m. after what was originally thought to be a dispute between a homeowner and hunters in the area.  Residents tell us several state police cruisers were surrounding the home where a man had reportedly barricaded himself inside.

Three ambulances also responded to the scene of the standoff as well as members of the Maine Warden Service.  Monument Road was blocked off during the standoff.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that Gary Knapp is accused of threatening his brother Larry Knapp with a rifle. The altercation allegedly took place Monday night in an adjacent camp. Gary Knapp is charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
