Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell announced in a news conference Friday that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Farrell said a "very treatable" form of cancer was discovered during hernia surgery on Monday.

The 53-year-old Farrell will begin chemotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital on Tuesday.

Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo will take over as manager for the remainder of the season.
