A car driven by a Presque Isle woman collided with another vehicle after the woman spotted a bear and attempted to make a u-turn so she could photograph the animal, police said.

The crash Thursday at 9:50 a.m. occurred on Route 1 in Westfield, state police said in a news release.

As Sara Ouellette, 24, attempted to make the u-turn her vehicle collided with a car driven by Brittany Drost, 21, of Bridgewater, who was driving behind Ouellette, according to the release.

Drost did not anticipate the u-turn and tried to avoid colliding with Ouellette's vehicle but did not have enough time to do so.

The two vehicles came to rest in the middle of Route 1, and both cars were eventually towed from the scene. Maine DOT also responded to the crash to remove debris from the road.

Ouellette was not injured in the crash. Crown Ambulance responded to evaluate Drost, but she was not transported to the hospital.

Police said Ouellette was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield.
