Over 28,000 orange and camouflaged outfitted people from all over the state will head into the woods in search of their big moose prize.

The 28,000 people were selected by a random drawing in June and those chosen have awaited this season eagerly. The hunt officially begins the start of September and for the next week most of Northern Maine is open to anyone with a permit.

With warmer temperatures than usual so far all odds are in the hunter's favor. Throughout the season hunting locations will change to different wildlife districts around the state.

To see the list of names selected for a moose permit, the hunting districts and times visit the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website.
