It’s no secret that Miranda Lambert is a human ambassador for animal causes. She proved it yet again by doing her part to raise awareness for the other victims of the May 20 tornado that ripped through her adopted home state of Oklahoma — the four-legged creatures that also lost their homes and roughed the aftermath of the storm.
Lambert performed her signature ballad ‘The House That Built Me’ at her husband Blake Shelton‘s ‘Healing in the Heartland’ benefit show Wednesday, but she barely made it through.
Lambert sang the song with life-sized photos of animals affected by the storm displayed behind her. She truly gave a voice to the voiceless, even breaking down in tears during second verse, thrusting the mic forward so the crowd could help her keep the song going. She quickly regained her composure and carried on like the strong woman and professional performer that she is.
Animals in Oklahoma are lucky to have Lambert as their patron saint. It’s easy to forget that they too are an important of the family unit. The singer works tirelessly to make sure that everyone remembers.
