Nowadays, it can be difficult for Americans to feel a strong sense of patriotism. Nevertheless, the expression of love and support for fellow citizens is an act of patriotism in itself. As Independence Day approaches, many Americans are preparing to celebrate the good in our nation despite the problems we may face.

A recent study conducted by WalletHub sought to determine which states harbor the most red, white, and blue pride (but like, for America, not for Russia or France). The study compared all 50 states across 13 key indicators of patriotism, including military engagement, civic engagement, and other relevant metrics. Each metric was assigned a weight and graded on a 100-point scale, with a higher score indicating a higher level of patriotism.

In this year's rankings, Maine emerged as the fifth most patriotic state in America. Our Pine Tree State's strong showing is a testament to the dedication and commitment we have for our nation.

Vermont followed closely behind in the rankings, securing the sixth spot. Showing us that their mountains aren’t JUST green. Looks like they’ve got a little red, white, and blue in them.

Speaking of white mountains, further down the list, New Hampshire claimed the tenth position, reflecting the state's strong sense of civic duty and active participation in the democratic process. Citizens of New Hampshire have long been engaged in shaping the nation's future through their voting practices and dedication to public service. The New Hampshire primaries are always given major priority during the early stages of election season.

While Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire showcased their patriotism, other states in the New England region did not fare as well. Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts ranked 41st, 48th, and 49th respectively in the overall rankings. However, it is worth noting that the study found that blue states, on average, exhibited slightly higher levels of patriotism compared to red states. The difference between the two was minimal, with an average rank of 25.20 for blue states and 25.80 for red states.

The study has Virginia claiming the top, most patriotic spot. Montana, Alaska, and North Dakota closely followed. On the other end of the spectrum, the study found that Florida, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Arkansas rounded out the bottom five states in terms of patriotism. While these rankings provide insights into the varying levels of patriotism across the nation, it is important to recognize that the spirit of patriotism can be found in every corner of America, regardless of ranking.

As the nation prepares to celebrate its independence, these rankings serve as a reminder that patriotism can be found across the entire country, transcending political boundaries. Whether through military service, civic engagement, or simply showing kindness and compassion towards fellow Americans, citizens from all walks of life contribute to the fabric of patriotism that unites us.
