Lincoln Woman Allegedly Shot a Gun Off Her Porch

A Lincoln woman says an incident between her dog and a neighbor's dog prompted her to shoot a gun off her front porch.

Where Did This Happen?

Lincoln Police responded to a home on Spring Street on Thursday, after receiving a report of shots fired. The caller reported that 45-year-old Laura Burrill was shooting a gun from the porch. Burrill's home is located behind the home of the person who called the police. When Officers got to the scene, they blocked off the intersection of West Broadway and Katahdin Avenue, as a precaution, and then proceeded to the reported location They found Burrill outside her residence and arrested her without incident. A .25 caliber handgun was recovered from her home, as well.

Why Was She Shooting?

Burrill admitted to discharging the weapon and told authorities during questioning that she had been frustrated because of an incident involving her dog and the neighbor's dog. Police have not released any details about what the issue was with the dogs. While no one was hurt in the incident, police say the firing of the gun posed a significant risk of serious bodily harm to individuals in the area of Katahdin Avenue and Spring Street, as well as other streets in the surrounding area.

What Charges Does She Face?

Police transported Burrill to the Penobscot County Jail where she was charged with Discharging a firearm near a dwelling and reckless conduct with a firearm. More charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

On February 12th, a Lincoln man was arrested for firing a gun in the same part of town. Christopher Bean said tooth pain and stress prompted him to fire his weapon, which police said put others in peril.
