James Franco Starts Daytona 500 With ‘Drivers and Danica, Start Your Engines’
Actor James Franco may have rehearsed his line, but it still came out wrong. Franco, star of the upcoming release ‘Spring Breakers’ was at the Daytona 500 today to serve as grand marshal. With driver Danica Patrick in the pole position of the race, the Daytona 500-opening phrase, “Gentlemen, start your engines,” doesn’t fit the field, so Franco decided to adjust the wording, except he screwed it up.
Drivers and Danica, start your engines!”
(UPDATE: Video posted above). We’ll post video of Franco’s gaffe when we get it/NASCAR posts it; NASCAAR has already taken down the early clips. Let’s hope for Franco’s sake that ‘Spring Breakers’ does better at the box office than he did at the Daytona 500.
