Search Continues for HMS Bounty Captain
The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday continued its search for the missing captain of the wooden sailing ship HMS Bounty, which sunk during Hurricane Sandy approximately 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, North Carolina.
Of the 16-person crew, the Coast Guard rescued 14. One woman pulled from the ocean was later pronounced dead. The crew boarded lifeboats as the ship took on water and could no longer move under its own power. Searchers have said they were optimistic that the captain, Robin Walbridge, 63, of St. Petersburg, Fla, could survive in his specially designed suit.
The ship, which spent time in Maine last summer, was constructed for the movie “Mutiny on the Bounty” starring Marlin Brando in the early 60s. It was also used in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
