A man who had eluded police for a month after drugs and illegal firearms were seized from his home, has been taken into custody.

Who Was the Subject of the Investigation?

Matthew Raymond, 32, of Clinton was arrested in early January during a traffic stop, just over a month after police searched his home.

According to the Clinton Police Department, Raymond had been the subject of an investigation into suspected illegal drug activity when a search warrant was issued for his Battle Ridge Road home. Members of the Maine Warden Service accompanied the officers since the warrant was written for an unrelated hunting incident, but no one was at the residence when they arrived. After discovering evidence of illegal narcotics operations at the home, police got a search warrant for the suspected presence of drugs.

What Was Seized From the Home?

The search yielded not only drugs but also weapons:

  • 105.8 grams of cocaine
  • 544.4 grams of fentanyl
  • 6 grams of methamphetamine and other amphetamines
  • A Firearm
  • Several Dangerous Knives
  • Cash that is believed to be related to illegal activities.

The items were taken as evidence, but no immediate arrests were made because Raymond was not at the house.

What Charges Does He Face?

Just over a month later, on January 6th, police were involved in surveillance of the home when a warden contacted the police and said he was following a vehicle in which Raymond was suspected of being a passenger. Eventually, the vehicle was pulled over for a traffic stop on the corner of River and Wyman Roads in Benton and Raymond was taken into custody, after initially being combative with the officer.

He's charged with:

  • 2 counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs
  • Possession of firearms by a prohibited person
  • Unlawful possession of scheduled drugs
  • Violation of conditions of release
  • Use of drug paraphernalia

Additional cocaine was allegedly found in his possession. The driver of the vehicle was not charged.
