A Brewer teen is one of several Mainers being honored by the American Cancer Society.

Fourteen-year-old Jessica Sargent will receive the Sandra C. Labaree New England Volunteer Values Award.

“Jessica embodies the criteria for the Sandra C. Lebaree New England Volunteer Values Award in so many ways,” said Karen Girvan of Relay For Life of Penobscot.

The award is named after Sandra Lebaree, a long time volunteer who helped establish the American Cancer Society, New England Division Board.

Jessica's family has been involved with Relay For Life since her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. Jessica's father was also diagnosed with cancer in 2011.

As many as 5 other Mainers will also receive a Sandra C. Labaree award this year.

Relay For Life of Penobscot will take place May 15 and 16 at the University of Maine in Orono. Click here for more information on the event.
