Bangor, Maine News Update: June 22, 2017

A Lincoln man is dead after an explosion in the basement of his home on Stanhope Drive at around 7:00 last night. Family members and neighbors told police the man, whose name hasn’t been released, had been experimenting with explosives in recent months. Fire investigators say there was little damage to the house.

Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, who lost his limbs in a blast in Afghanistan, will open the doors to his summer retreat this weekend, welcoming in others who suffered severe war injuries. The lakeside compound, called the Maine Chance Lodge and Retreat, is the former Belgrade lakes estate of cosmetics magnate Elizabeth Arden and will be dedicated this weekend.

The Bangor Humane Society has partnered with the ASPCA to rescue dogs from Southern kill shelters. 16 puppies and dogs from a kill shelter in Mississippi were recently brought to Bangor and have found new homes. This is an ongoing project so, if you missed out on these pups, the Bangor Humane Society will have more in the coming weeks.

A golf tournament in Orrington this Saturday will offer a hole-in-one prize of fifteen thousand dollars, among other prizes, and will raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
