Amazing! Sixth-Grader Re-Invents Traditional Sandbag, Wins $25K [VIDEO]
I don’t know about you, but in sixth-grade my mind was always thinking about being outside and playing sports or riding my bike. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think about inventing something that could help humanity by saving lives that are threatened by catastrophic floods.
Payton Robertson, a sixth-grader from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, decided to do something about devastating floods by inventing, or shall we say re-inventing, the sandbag, which of course is used to dam up water to keep it from encroaching. If you’ve ever handled a full sandbag, then you know just how heavy they can be. Payton’s sandbag weighs next to nothing. His invention has earned him ‘America’s Top Young Scientist Award,’ and $25,000 dollars.
