Police are investigating an accident that ended with a car in a pond and a woman who was deceased.

UPDATE: Police have identified the couple as 43-year-old Collette Daggett and 42-year-old Wilfred Daggett. The two were married and lived in New Vineyard.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the Franklin County Sheriff's Office got a call just before 11:00 Tuesday morning from a man who told them his vehicle was submerged in a pond. He went on to say that he and his wife required medical attention.

When Deputies got to the scene, they made contact with the husband and then went to check on his wife, who was lying on the shore of the pond. First Responders determined that she had died, prior to their arrival. The man was then transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital. There's no word on how badly he was hurt.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department called the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South to assist them with the investigation. Crime scene technicians and analysts from the Maine State Police Evidence Response team and Traffic Reconstruction Unit processed the scene, as part of the investigation, to determine exactly how the vehicle ended up in the water.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on the woman's body at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
