The Bangor Waterfront welcomed a country music legend June 19th: Willie Nelson & friends stopped by alongside country-newcomer Kacey Musgraves and Alison Krauss & Union Station.
Kacey Musgraves kicked off the event with her latest single ‘The Trailer Song’. Musgraves played a number of songs of her debut album 'Same Trailer, Different Park' which won both a Grammy Award and an ACM Award for Album of the Year. Songs played included: 'Stupid', 'Follow Your Arrow', and 'Silver Lining'. Kacey also treated the audience to a cover of Dolly Parton's 'Here You Come Again' before ending her set with an A Capella rendition of Roy Rogers' 'Happy Trails'.
Not long after Musgraves left the stage, Alison Krauss & The Union Station brought their own talent to the Bangor Waterfront. The band opened with 'Let Me Touch You For Awhile' before playing other tracks like 'Baby, Now That I've Found You'. Band member Dan Tyminski performed songs like: 'Dust Bowl Children' and 'A Man Of Constant Sorrow'. Tyminski also sang an acoustic version of 'Hey Brother', a song he recorded with Pop DJ Avicii. Jerry Douglas rocked his guitar solos before the band closed out their set with acoustic versions of 'When You Say Nothing At All', 'Whiskey Lullaby' and an A Capella version of 'Down in the River to Pray'.
Bangor welcomed Willie Nelson with a standing ovation and the country outlaw played 'Whiskey River' and 'Beer for My Horses' to begin the show. Willie played his classic hits like 'On the Road Again', 'Always On My Mind', and 'Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys'. The crowd cheered for Willie's son Lukas as he played guitar and sang 'Just Breathe' with his father. Willie introduced a few songs from his latest 'Band of Brothers' album before he was joined on stage by Alison Krauss & The Union Station and Kacey Musgraves for a grand finale. Together they sang 'I'll Fly Away', 'Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die', and ended the show with 'I Saw the Light'.
After leaving Bangor, Willie & Friends took off for their next show in Gilford, NH Friday, June 20th.
