Where Experts Say You Should Keep Your Maine Air Conditioner
We’re not too proud to ask for help when it comes to staying cool and beating the heat here in our Pine Tree State.
Seriously, when we say we’re not too proud, we mean it—if you’ve got suggestions, we’re all ears. Air conditioning definitely helps, but let’s be honest, it can only do so much when the heat really kicks in.
That said, who exactly are these experts, and what are they looking for when giving recommendations on where to place your AC unit?
To get these recommendations and suggestions, we looked at a Quora thread that asked, ‘Where is the best place to put an AC window unit in a room?’ The answers came from a range of knowledgeable contributors, including former electromechanical techs and trainers, economists, and licensed home inspectors.

So, with that in mind, where should we be keeping our AC units in our houses or apartments here in Maine? What’s the best location to help beat the heat?
As laid out by the experts, the ideal setup is for the cool air to circulate through the room before being drawn back into the unit—but that’s not always possible, depending on the room’s layout.
Make sure it’s well-sealed and positioned to circulate cool air throughout the room without being blocked by furniture.
To get the most out of your window AC unit, install it in a shaded window that faces the prevailing wind, ideally about halfway up the wall, with plenty of space around it for airflow.
If your space isn’t perfect, you can angle the vents toward the center of the room or use a fan to help move the air around.
Since every room is different, there’s no single best spot—just avoid placing it near where you sit or sleep, since window units can be noisy.

And there you have it! With all of these factors considered, this is how you can get the most out of your window air conditioner here in Maine.
What are your thoughts on these suggestions? And again, at the end of the day, that’s exactly what they are—suggestions. We’d love to hear from you! Feel free to join the conversation by messaging us on the app.
