An accident on I-95 in Island Falls, over the weekend, left a tractor trailer wrapped around a bridge support.

State Police were alerted to the crash just before 8:00 Saturday evening. A passerby called the Houlton Regional Communications Center to report there was a tractor trailer leaning against a guard rail in the area of mile marker 276, southbound. Trooper Hunter Cotton responded and found a white semi wrapped around the Route 159 concrete bridge support.

Cotton's investigation revealed that the truck's driver, 66-year-old Rodney Gladstone of New Brunswick, had lost control of the truck in the poor weather and road conditions The tractor trailer unit slid into and broke approximately 100 yards of guardrail, slid into the median, and then into the bridge support. The impact from the collision with the bridge broke the trailer in half. Police say the driver suffered minor injuries.

A Department of Transportation bridge inspector is looking into the damage to the bridge, and the truck will be removed by Westerdahls towing.
