Northern Light Health has made the difficult decision to close Inland Hospital in Waterville.

Northern Light Inland Hospital Will Still Provide Services Into Late May

A media release from Northern Light Health states that the decision wasn't easy. But officials say the combination of immense pressure from higher operational costs, unsustainably low reimbursement rates, and a tight labor market precipitated a decision to close Inland Hospital in Waterville. While the facility has been a part of the Waterville community for many years, the increased availability of healthcare services in the area has made it difficult for the hospital to continue.

Northern Light officials say services in the hospital and clinics will be available through May 27, 2025. Until then, staff members will do all they can to help patients transition their care to other facilities or organizations in the Waterville area.

The Full Closure of the Waterville Hospital Will Happen in June

The full closure of Inland Hospital is expected to be completed by June 11, 2025. Northern Light Health suspended birthing services at Inland Hospital, effective March 1, 2025.

Tim Dentry, President and CEO of Northern Light Health says caring for people is what they do and Inland Hospital has provided that care for over 80 years.

While many of the challenges facing Inland are similar to those at hospitals throughout Maine and the rest of the country, solutions working well in other facilities and the communities we serve have not proven successful in Waterville.

Northern Light will maintain the facility and grounds while stewarding its sale.
