Baileyville, Maine Hotel Drug Bust Nets 3 Arrests

2 Mainers and a resident of New Jersey face charges as the result of an investigation into illegal drug activity at a motel.

3 People Were Arrested in Baileyville, Maine on Drug Charges

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has identified the three suspects:

Katherine Smith, 36, of Baileyville, charged with unlawful trafficking of cocaine base and methamphetamine. Bail was set at $100.
Bruce Bailey, 37, of Baileyville, charged with possession of cocaine base. Personal recognizance bail.
Dim Akopian, 40, of Dumont, New Jersey, is charged with unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs. Bail is set at $10,000.

Personal recognizance bail means that the individual is released without paying any money. They are required to sign a promise to appear at all court dates.

Typically, this means they are considered a low flight risk.

Maine Drug Agents Make 3 Arrests After Observing Alleged Drug Activity at a Motel

Drug agents have been conducting surveillance at a motel in Baileyville and observed alleged activity in one room consistent with illegal drug trafficking.

At approximately 8:30 am on Monday, officials say agents watched Katherine Smith exit the motel room and meet briefly with an occupied vehicle nearby.

The agents detained Smith outside the hotel and later arrested her.

Officials then stopped the vehicle that met with Smith and the driver was identified as Bruce Bailey. He was also arrested.

A search warrant was executed on the hotel room, and officials seized approximately 64 grams of methamphetamine, along with evidence of drug trafficking.

New Jersey Resident Arrested in Maine for Alleged Illegal Drug Activity

It was just after 3:30 pm when members of the U.S. Border Patrol conducted a traffic stop in Baileyville on another vehicle that was believed to be connected to the hotel room activity.

The driver Dim Akopian of New Jersey, was arrested.

Agents applied for and were granted a second search warrant for Smith's apartment, located at 20 Monroe Street in Calais.

Additional evidence of drug trafficking was seized in that search.
