The deceased has tentatively been identified as Steven T. Belmain, 62, of Washburn. Officials say the remains are being taken to the Maine Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy later today to confirm the identity of the deceased and determine the cause of death.
Washburn, Maine, House Fire Was Reported Just after Midnight on Monday
A 911 call was received at the Houlton Regional Communication Center just after midnight on Monday, reporting a structure fire at 61 Brook Side Circle in Washburn.
When Washburn Firefighters and Deputies with the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they found a single-wide trailer, fully involved in flames.
Washburn, Maine, House Fire Killed 1 Person and Injured 2 Others
Two people were transported to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with injuries related to the fire. A male subject was later discovered deceased in the building, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to help with the investigation.
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, an initial investigation indicates the use of a generator in the entryway of the structure caused the fire.
