Longtime sports broadcaster Tim Throckmorton will be saying goodbye to the Bangor area community pretty soon as he has announced his retirement with WABI-TV 5.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Throckmorton has been telling us the local sports news for 39 years.

Throckmorton started his career in radio in 1980 and became WABI-TV 5's sports anchor and director in 1984. During his time, he has been honored with the Maine Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Throckmorton will be ending his run -- the longest-serving television sportscaster in the state of Maine.

Tim will be giving us a few more weeks of the sports news but will soon be visiting the golf courses a bit more often while enjoying his retirement. His last day will be Friday, May 3.

Plan on two half hour specials to honor Tim's career on WABI-TV 5 on May 1 and May 2.
