Election Day 2024 is this Tuesday, and nationwide there are often threats to a fair election process, including here in Maine. Last week in Bangor, there was allegedly at least one person going door to door offering to turn in absentee ballots. Never hand over your absentee ballot to someone you don't trust and know, and it's best to turn it in yourself.

City of Bangor shared this post after the incidents were reported.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The City (Bangor) has been made aware of at least one individual knocking on doors offering to return absentee ballots for residents. This incident has been reported to the Secretary of State for them to investigate, as it is illegal and may result in ballots never being submitted/counted.
Ballots should be returned by you, a family member, or your previously designated third party at the City Hall drop box (262 Harlow Street; back of building), the Clerk's Office during business hours, or mailed using the U.S. Postal Service. To file report should this happen to you, please contact the Bureau of Corporations, Elections & Commissions by emailing cec.elections@maine.gov.
***All absentee ballots must be received by a voter’s municipality by 8 p.m. on Election Day.***

There first thing you will probably need in order to make sure that your vote is counted, is to know where to vote. Your polling place is based on your residential address. Go to your assigned voting location. Your name will not be on the roster at any other location. Polling places are typically schools, community centers, and other public facilities. The site of your polling place may change from one election to the next, so check with your state's election office before Election Day.
