Casco Head-on Crash

Two people were injured in a violent head-on crash on Route 302 in Casco Friday morning.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened at around 5:18 on a section of the Roosevelt Trail known as Watkins Flats. A Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center line and struck a Subaru Legacy head-on. It was a violent impact that entrapped both occupants in their vehicles and dislodged the engine block from the Cruze, which then caught fire on the road. Both drivers were traveling alone and had to be extricated from the wreckage.

The operator of the Subaru was taken by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. The Chevy's driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Bridgton Hospital. Officials haven't released the names of the people involved in the crash.

The road has been reopened to traffic and the investigation is ongoing. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was aided at the scene by Fire/EMS crews from Casco, Raymond, and Naples.
