Two people were injured when the vehicle they were riding in skidded off a slush-covered Interstate 95 and rolled over Monday in Island Falls.

Jeffrey Rutter, 67, of Jay was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer when his vehicle began to skid due to the slushy road conditions.

Police said Rutter over-corrected, causing his 2014 Subaru Minivan to go off the left side of the road.

His vehicle rolled at least once before coming to rest on its passenger side in some trees.

Rutter and his two passengers were trapped inside the vehicle for a short time and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

Rutter was transporting his passengers to Scarborough for an appointment.

The passengers were Juliette Madore, 75, and her daughter, Brenda Madore, 46, both of Van Buren.

They both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital.

Rutter was not injured in the crash.
