Two women died and a man was injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday in Island Falls.

State Police say a driver on I-95 called 911 at around 3:30 Monday afternoon to report a car off the road, with people trapped inside. Trooper Tim Saucier responded and learned that 35-year-old Colleen Collins had been driving north on the interstate when she lost control of the vehicle. The Chevy Tahoe traveled into the ditch where it came to rest in the trees before catching fire. Collins and one of her passengers, 62-year-old Mary Michaud of Van Buren, were pronounced dead. Another passenger, 42-year-old Keith Michaud, (Mary's son) also of Van Buren, was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Maine Forest Service, Island Falls Fire Department, and Island Falls Ambulance.
