Two Hospitalized After Interstate 95 Motorcycle Crash in Augusta
A man and a woman sustained life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon as the result of a motorcycle crash on Interstate 95 in Augusta.
Police responded to the crash at about 1:50 p.m. near northbound mile marker 114 in Augusta.
Patrick Daggett, 40, of New Sharon and passenger Rebecca Wallace, 42, of Jay were taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Police said Daggett was operating his 2005 Harley when the motorcycle encountered mechanical failure.
He lost control of the motorcycle when pulling into the breakdown lane. The motorcycle went off the roadway to the right and the occupants were ejected, police said.
Neither were wearing helmets, according to police.
The accident briefly closed both lanes while the scene was cleared.
Police say they believe a mechanical malfunction was the cause of the crash.
