Troy Infant Allegedly Killed By Mother Died From Blunt Force Trauma, Documents Say
A Troy woman charged with murder in the death of her infant son told police one of her autistic children may have beaten the baby to death, according to court documents.
According to a police affidavit filed with the court, the 7-week-old boy died from blunt force trauma, and his injuries included cuts and bruises on his head, skull and rib fractures and bleeding on the surface of the brain, the Kennebec Journal reported Tuesday.
The mother, Miranda Hopkins, appeared in Waldo County District Court Tuesday, the day the court documents were released.
She told police she must have "blacked out," and she was “so drunk that she did not remember” what happened to her child, the affidavit said.
Hopkins called 911 from her mobile home on North Dixmont Road Thursday morning and said her son was unresponsive.
She allegedly told police she awoke to find the boy “beat to hell.”
She was arrested by Maine State Police on a murder charge Friday morning.
Hopkins' other sons, ages 6 and 8, both are autistic. They're now being cared for by relatives.
