Bring the kids for a Touch a Truck Safety fair in Brewer today, where you can pick up a new smoke detector, eat some ice cream, and the kids can climb on firetrucks!

Every time I talk to firefighters about the latest building to be destroyed by fire, they say the same thing - there were no working smoke detectors. So area Fire Departments are getting together today to not only get the word out, but also to hand out free smoke detectors and batteries, while supplies last.

And just to make it more fun, there will be plenty of firetrucks and emergency vehicles on hand for the kids (of all ages) to climb on, or sit in the driver's seat. The kids will also get free coloring books, crayons, stickers, and fire hats, while supplies last. And there will be free hot dogs for dinner, and free ice cream from the Darling's Ice Cream For A Cause truck for dessert.

It's all happening this afternoon at the Darling's Agency, 96 Parkway South in Brewer, from 5:30 to 7:30. Fire and Rescue departments taking part include Orrington, Eddington, Carmel, Levant, Brewer, and more. Stop by for some food, fun, and fire safety!
