A top official in the Bangor School Department's financial office faces charges after investigators say he uploaded a sexually explicit image of two young boys to the internet.

Alan Kochis, 62, faces two counts of possession of sexually explicit material. He was arrested Thursday by Brewer police.

Kochis, of Brewer, was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. He was released Friday morning on $500 bail and the condition he have no unsupervised contact with minors under 18 years old.

Kochis, the school department's business services director, resigned his post earlier this month, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News.

The report states investigators were made aware of the image by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which monitors such activity. Investigators then traced the image to the Internet Protocol, or IP, address of a device owned by Kochis.

Kochis is expected to appear in court on September 11.
