High St. in Belfast will will transform into a racetrack, for tricked out beds this weekend.

The Great State of Maine Charity Bed Race is this Saturday, May 11, in Belfast. The event encourages five person teams to build a bed to push down an approximately 75-yard track. The winning team, by fastest time, will win $500 to be donated to a charity of their choice.

Entry per-team is $50. Waivers and entry forms can be submitted online. The race begins at 9 a.m. Teams should plan to arrive early enough for pre-race bed inspections.

Travelers in Belfast should be aware that a portion of High St. is being shut down Saturday.

Belfast Police say High St. from McLeod's Furniture to Alexia's Pizza will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon.
