A man who was the subject of a lengthy standoff in Old Town, and a second police incident a year later, was involved in a standoff in Eddington.

What Happened In This Latest Case?

In the latest incident, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office was trying to serve a domestic violence protection order to Thadius Wind, 47, in the town of Eddington on Thursday, when he refused to exit the building, creating a standoff that lasted four hours. Finally, he was taken into police custody by the Sheriff's Office Special Response Team and faces criminal charges for violation of a protection order and violation of probation. Wind was on probation for firearms related and domestic violence charges when Deputies arrived at the Eddington residence. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Officials say the surrounding public was never in any danger during the incident, which remains under investigation.

Wasn't He the Suspect In a Long Old Town Standoff?

Wind was the subject of two previous incidents, including a standoff in June of 2021 in Old Town. Police were called to his apartment late at night to reports of a tenant having a mental health issue. When they arrived, they observed Wind with a large sword. His girlfriend was also in the apartment but, after some negotiation, was allowed to leave. The standoff lasted 17 hours, shutting down traffic for a portion of Stillwater Avenue. Eventually, police were able to take the suspect into custody and transported him to a hospital for evaluation before charging him with criminal threatening. At the time of his arrest, Wind was on probation for a disorderly conduct charge earlier that month.

Where Was the Third Encounter With Police?

About a year later, law enforcement was once again called for an incident involving Thadius Wind in June of 2022. Members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office went to a home on Riverside Drive in Eddington for a report of a family fight during which Wind had allegedly assaulted his fiance. Deputies were able to take the suspect into custody without incident as he was walking down the driveway because he didn't know they were there. He was charged with domestic violence assault in that case.
