Take a Virtual Tour of Abandoned Island Town in Maine [VIDEO]

Five houses from the town are still standing on the island abandoned in the 1900's. Today you can explore the island and even spend the night there!

Origionally named Perkin's Island the name is now Swan Island. This is not the Swan Island near Acadia, this Swan Island is in the Kennebec River near Richmond.

Since being abandoned the the island now constitutes the Steve Powell Wildlife Management Area operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. It is not completely abandoned as many trails have been made and maintained as well as lean-to's for overnight trippers.

The island can be reached by boat or kayak so you can see all of this for yourself!
