Forecasters are predicting highs in the upper 90s in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday, which would set a new record for June 24 in The Queen City. According to the National Weather Service, a high of 97 is expected on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for much of Maine, including Bangor. The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
The National Weather Service says temperatures will climb into the 80s to around 90 in Bangor on Thursday, and the high temperatures could accompanied by thunderstorms.
Maine has seen some real soakers over the years. There have been times where the rain has contributed serious flooding that caused damage to homes and made roads impassable. But one rain event really stands out, and it poured so hard a new record was set for the state.
Maine isn't close to being one of the hottest states in the country. Based on average annual temperature, Maine is actually one of the coldest places in the U.S.
