SUV Strikes Parked Vehicle, House on Mapleton Road

A Masardis woman was injured when her SUV went off the road in Mapleton late Monday afternoon and struck a parked vehicle and a private residence.

State Police say 40-year-old Jennifer Abren was traveling west on Route 163 shortly after 4 p.m. in a 2009 GMC Sport Utility Vehicle.

Abren told police that she had dropped her cigarette into her seat, and the cigarette was burning her leg, according to Sgt. Chad Fuller. Her vehicle went off the road and into the ditch, then struck a 1999 Ford pickup that was parked on the edge of the driveway at 881 Mapleton Road. The truck, owned by Eric Cogswell, was unoccupied.

The SUV continued towards the residence where it came to rest up against the front porch, causing minor damage, Fuller said.

Abren was wearing her seat belt. She was transported by Crown Ambulance to TAMC in Presque Isle with minor injuries.

Sgt. Fuller said both vehicles sustained significant damage. State Trooper Adam Stoutamyer investigated the crash. The Maine Warden Service was also on scene.

It's the second time in a week that a vehicle struck a house on Rt. 163 in Mapleton.
