The backlash followed Trump’s Oval Office comments, where he claimed most media outlets are against him despite describing himself as a strong supporter of free speech.

Stephen King took to X to criticize President Trump, saying Trump isn’t fighting hate speech, but rather speech that criticizes him.
In another post, King mocked him with a new nickname, calling him ‘Trumpty-Dumpty’ while tying it to Trump’s frequent attacks on the New York Times.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins criticized President Trump’s stance on free speech, pointing out that he claimed negative media coverage of him should be considered illegal.
Collins noted this came as he ousted a prosecutor he had appointed, and reminded viewers that freedom of the press—whether positive or negative—is fully protected under the First Amendment and not based on percentages or approval ratings.
Stephen King’s latest comments come after a controversial month for the author, who previously made statements about Charlie Kirk following his death.
After being informed that the information he shared was false, King deleted his posts and issued an apology.
