It began this past Monday.   Due to the reconstruction of Route 3 - northbound traffic coming out of Bar Harbor is now being DETOURED onto the CROOKED ROAD, and things for residents and wildlife in that area are changing already.

As the speedy traffic increases on Crooked Road, so does the chance of hitting unsuspecting wildlife and house pets that are used to a normally somewhat sedate road.  Apparently, Mallard ducks are abundant in that area, see the post below from Diana de los Santos, the Director of the SPCA of Hancock County.  Of course with no hunting on MDI, the deer population is pretty enormous too.

Animals are creatures of habit, and if they're used to a less than traveled road, that's what they expect.  So, SLOW DOWN!  Be safe, and live and let live.
