An elderly New Gloucester man who never showed up for a medical appointment in Yarmouth Thursday has been found, safe and sound.

State Police were asking for the public's help locating 78-year-old Frank Birch. He had last been seen about 8:30 yesterday morning in North Yarmouth after his truck was pulled out of a snow bank by a wrecker. There was no damage to the truck and Birch then drove off.

Police say he contacted his wife, shortly before 6 p.m., to tell her he'd been Christmas shopping. He was confused about his location, so police joined the call and were able to determine that he was in Gardiner. Officers met him at the store to confirm that he was okay.
