A Groundhog Day Nor'easter is forecast to bring nearly a foot of snow to parts of Maine.

The National Weather Service is tracking a Nor'easter which will bring heavy snow and freezing rain to the Bangor area. Much of Maine is forecast to pile up over half a foot of new snowfall throughout the day, Tuesday. Bangor and Downeast areas may see a change to sleet and freezing rain, midday into afternoon. Coastal areas will likely see a complete changeover to rain.

Bangor will see the heaviest snowfall during the morning hours, making for a difficult commute. Heaviest snow and blowing snow will impact northern areas Tuesday afternoon into early evening, making for a difficult evening commute.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Bangor and the Downeast region. Forecasters are uncertain on snow totals in the area, due to the potential for a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and rain. Areas further north are under a Winter Storm Warning.
