Searchers Looking For Missing Richmond Boater
Several agencies are searching for a Richmond man who disappeared while moving his boat to the Town Dock.
UPDATE: A body was recovered on Friday, but the person's identity has not been confirmed.
Jeff Nichols of the Marine Patrol says 64-year-old Mark Johnston was reported overdue just before 9:30 Thursday night, when he failed to return from moving his 32-foot recreational vehicle from a mooring to the Town Dock at 6:15 p.m. His boat was spotted on the west side of Swan Island, where it had run aground. Officials say the boat was running and its navigation lights were on, but no one was on board.
The search that involves several agencies, including the Coast Guard, Marine Patrol, Warden Service, Richmond Harbormaster, and Fire Department personnel from Dresden, Woolwich, and Bowdoinham concluded at 2:30 a.m. and started back up at 7 o'clock Friday morning. The Maine State Police/Marine Patrol dive team is also aiding in the search.
The last sighting of Johnston was on a security camera at the Town Dock at 6:11 p.m.Thursday.
