Distance runner Ruth White of Orono, Maine, is headed to the NCAA Championships after placing sixth in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA East First Round on Thursday night.

By finishing in the top 12 out of a field of 48 runners, the University of New Hampshire freshman qualifies for the June 12 final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The former Orono High School star finished with a time of 32:50.17, breaking her own UNH record of 32:57.83.

Ruth's New Hampshire school records

The old record was set at the America East Championships, where she won a gold medal and was named the event's Most Outstanding Rookie.

She previously set the school record with a time of 33:27.57 at the Black & Gold Invitational.

She also won gold and set a school record in the 5,000-meter run at the New England Championships, running 16:22.78.

Ruth's high school career at Orono

Ruth won multiple Gatorade Athlete of the Year awards and state championships as a member of the Orono High School cross country and track and field teams.

She initially signed a national letter of intent with Boise State University.

However, Ruth was granted permission to decommit due to a coaching change at BSU, and she later committed to the UNH Wildcats.

The 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place Wednesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 14, with both the men's and women's championships being held simultaneously.

The championships will air on the ESPN family of networks.
