A man accused of stabbing someone at a Presque Isle shelter is in custody after the public helped police find the suspect.

WAGM-TV reports a multitude of calls from the public reporting sightings led them to 65-year-old Daniel Bertrand, who was arrested at around 9:00 this morning. He was taken into custody without incident on the State Road, near Skyway Street.

Police say surveillance video shows Bertrand allegedly using Mace and an edged weapon in an attack on one of the employees at the Sister Mary O'Donnell Homeless Shelter at around 7:00 Monday evening. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Because of the proximity of Northern Maine Community College to the investigation, classes were canceled for today. A post on the school's Facebook page says classes will resume in the morning.

Police say Bertrand didn't have any weapons with him when he was apprehended. He's been charged with aggravated assault and is being held on $50,000 bail.

This incident remains under investigation.
