Whether a visitor to Maine, or a transplant like my wife and me, if this is going to be your first winter in the northeast, you might be looking at that calendar and wondering when and what do we need to be prepared for the cold months. We asked the Q106.5 audience, and they were filled with helpful advice.

First, the Satirical, Ironic Comments on How to Prepare for a Maine Winter

These are hilarious, but the following didn't offer much help for preparing for a Maine winter. An argument could be made that laughter warms the soul, but will it warm a body when it's ten degrees outside?

Paul Carpenter - Their heads examined??

Thomas Morelli - Airplane ticket to Florida. Leaves October 31st, return flight May 15th. Perfect.

Katie Martin - The will to live

George Briggs - To leave go back where they came from

Those 'from away' such as us are excited to experience a Maine winter. We want to ski, sled, snowmobile, hike in snowshoes and spikes, watch our dogs lose their mind, and have days where we don't need to fill the icetrays for the blender.

Here Are Recommendations from Mainers to Prepare for a Maine Winter

In addition to the humorous comments, there were so many helpful suggestions. These are fantastic, and thank you so much to everyone who weighed in.

Bree Clayton - Keep kitty litter, a little shovel, blanket, and something bright orange in your car!

Hollie Lee Butera - Ice scrapper, shovel, fuzzy slippers, and vitamin D tablets cause the seasonal depression is debilitating at times.

Ceara Alley - A generator! Preferably BEFORE you lose power during a 3-day snowstorm

Janet B White - A 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is a must

Christy McLain - Have your car serviced and have the antifreeze changed. Find your favorite hot beverage and make sure you have plenty on hand. Also have a sense of adventure! Get out there and enjoy it! Go snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, skiing, tuning, sliding, it is beautiful but cold.

Stephanie Joslin - You never know what the weather will be so make sure you have everything from a winter coat to flip flops

Brian Oliver - Good books and family games for the blizzards... According to my SIL, this winter should be a real Maine winter (not like last year where we had less than 2' total snow, but lots of rain)

Paula Furbush - An awesome plow team to clean their drive and walkways

Robin Nemer Yeaton - The attitude that snow is beautiful!!! (And I think it is!!!)

If you have advice for 'surviving' a Maine winter, please keep those comments coming. You never know who might read it and you may change their entire experience for the better!
